Phase one is verification without risk. Request or access the EA developer's live-account performance data. Look at Profit Factor, win rate, maximum drawdown, and trade count. Any EA worth considering should have at least 6 months of real-account data with enough trade volume (100+ trades minimum) to be statistically meaningful.

Phase two is demo testing on your own account. Install the EA with the recommended settings on a demo account with the same broker you plan to use live. Run it for 2–4 weeks. This does two things: verifies the EA's actual behaviour matches what was described, and familiarises you with how it operates — when it trades, what the drawdowns look like, how it responds to different market conditions.

Phase three is small live deployment. Open a live account with minimum deposit ($200–$500) and minimum lot sizes (0.01). Run for 4–8 weeks. At this stage, you are verifying execution quality — whether the broker fills orders at acceptable prices, whether spread is within acceptable ranges, and whether the EA behaves consistently with the demo. Small live is not about making money; it is about building justified confidence.

Phase four is progressive scaling. Once 3 months of live performance matches expectations, you have a sound basis for increasing allocation. Double the account or lot size, observe for another 4–6 weeks, and repeat. This staircase approach means that if something unexpected happens at any stage, the damage is limited to the capital allocated at that stage — not your entire intended allocation.
