How to Use This Calculator

1

Enter your account balance

Use your real trading account equity in USD. The calculator uses this as the base for all risk calculations.

2

Set your risk per trade (%)

Most professional traders risk 0.5%–2% per trade. Start at 1% if you're unsure. This is the maximum you're willing to lose on a single trade.

3

Enter stop loss in pips

On XAUUSD, 1 pip = $0.10. Count the pips from your entry to your stop loss level. A 20-pip SL at $2,600 gold price means your stop is at $2,598 or $2,602.

4

Read the recommended lot size

The result is floored to the nearest 0.01 lot (broker minimum for most MT5 brokers). Enter exactly this lot size in MetaTrader 5.

Lot Size FAQ

What is the minimum lot size on XAUUSD MT5?

Most MT5 brokers set a minimum of 0.01 lots (micro lot) on XAUUSD. Always verify with your broker, as some prop firms or cent accounts may differ.

Why do you floor the lot size instead of rounding?

Flooring ensures you never exceed your risk. Rounding up could result in risking slightly more than your intended percentage, which compounds over many trades.

How is pip value calculated for XAUUSD?

1 standard lot of XAUUSD = 100 troy ounces. A 1-pip move ($0.10) on 100 oz = $10 pip value. So pip value = lot size × $10. A 0.10 lot gives $1/pip, and a 0.01 lot gives $0.10/pip.

What risk percentage should I use for gold trading?

Most professional scalpers use 0.5%–2% per trade. At 1% on a $5,000 account you risk $50 per trade — enough to build a track record without blowing the account on a bad streak. Start conservative and scale up once profitable.

Does this calculator work for all XAUUSD brokers?

Yes — the math is based on standard XAUUSD contract size (100 oz). The pip value of $10 per standard lot applies to all regulated MT5 brokers offering XAUUSD. Commission is not included; that comes out of your entry price.
