For traders choosing between MT4 and MT5, the practical question is whether the EA or strategy you want is available for your target platform. Most legacy EAs were built for MT4. MT5 brings meaningful upgrades for gold trading specifically. The 21 built-in timeframes include M2, M3, M4, M6, M10, M12, M20 and H2, H3, H6, H8, H12 — significantly more granular session analysis than MT4's 9 timeframes. The Strategy Tester runs on tick data with variable spread modeling, producing more realistic backtesting results than MT4's fixed spread simulations.

MT5's netting account type (where overlapping positions are combined into a single net position) differs from MT4's hedging model. The Pro-Scalper EAs are designed for netting accounts, which is the standard for most Forex and gold brokers on MT5. Broker support is shifting decisively toward MT5.
