How to Verify if a Gold Trading EA Actually Works

Checks 1–4: Live Account and Track Record

Check 1 is the foundation of everything else: does a verified third-party live account exist? Myfxbook, FX Blue, and similar platforms connect directly to a broker account via read-only API access. When you view an account on these platforms, you are seeing actual trade data — not a spreadsheet or screenshot. Ask the vendor for their myfxbook URL directly. Visit it, check that it says "verified" with the broker name, and look at the trade history tab to see every individual trade.

Check 2 examines the track record depth. A verified account with 30 trades over 3 weeks means almost nothing. You need at least 200 trades across a minimum of 6 months. In a clean, fixed-risk money management system, lot sizes should be consistent or slightly vary in proportion to account balance changes. If you see lot sizes that double or triple progressively (0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8) without any clear relationship to account growth, you are looking at martingale or grid logic. This should immediately disqualify the EA for risk-sensitive traders regardless of how good the headline return looks. Check 4 is the drawdown assessment. Myfxbook shows maximum drawdown as a percentage of peak equity. For a XAUUSD scalping EA, maximum drawdown below 15% is conservative, 15–25% is moderate and acceptable, 25–40% is aggressive, and above 40% is extreme risk that most traders should avoid. More important than the absolute drawdown number is the recovery trajectory — how quickly did the account recover from its worst drawdown? A fast recovery (within 4–8 weeks) suggests a genuine edge. A slow or incomplete recovery suggests the strategy is struggling.

Alongside these four checks, note the profit factor shown on the verified account. Profit factor above 1.3 is the minimum viable threshold. Above 1.5 is good. Above 1.8 is excellent. Values above 2.0 on hundreds of live trades are exceptional. If the profit factor on the live verified account is below 1.3, the system is not generating enough edge to overcome real trading costs — and should not be considered regardless of how good the backtest looks.

Checks 5–8: Backtest, Broker Independence, and Vendor Accountability

Check 5 evaluates the backtest quality if the vendor provides one. The myfxbook account's "Summary" tab often shows whether the account was created with a deposit-only history or includes full detailed trade records. For the backtest itself, request the actual MT5 strategy tester HTML report file. In this report, look for: modelling quality (should be above 90%), total trades (should be consistent with the live account frequency), and the match between backtest and live performance metrics. A backtest that wildly outperforms the live account suggests the live conditions differ significantly from backtest assumptions.

Check 6 is broker independence testing. Ask the vendor directly: "On how many different brokers have you tested this EA?" A credible answer is "multiple" with specific broker names or categories (ECN, STP, etc.). An EA that is claimed to work only on one specific broker — particularly if that broker is also prominently advertised on the vendor's website — is a significant warning sign. Broker dependency suggests the EA relies on specific execution characteristics that may be tied to that broker's commercial relationship with the vendor rather than genuine strategy robustness.

Check 7 assesses vendor accountability and transparency. Can you contact the vendor directly before purchasing? Do they respond within a reasonable timeframe? Do they answer technical questions about the EA's strategy — session times, stop loss method, risk management type, known limitations? Legitimate vendors are proud of their systems and happy to answer questions. Vendors who deflect technical questions with marketing language or refuse to discuss drawdown and limitations are hiding something.

Check 8 is the refund policy and community presence assessment. Does a genuine user community exist — forum posts, YouTube comments, independent reviews — that you can verify are real users rather than paid testimonials? Fake reviews are common, but patterns that reveal them include: reviews all posted within the same short time window, identical phrasing across multiple reviews, zero specific detail about actual trading experience (no mention of specific sessions, drawdown periods, or setup process). Real community presence is harder to fake than screenshot collections. What to Do After Verification

Passing all eight verification checks does not mean the EA is guaranteed to work on your account. It means the EA has passed the minimum credibility threshold and is worth investing testing time in.
